Carola Nicholson is a Certified Public Accountant who moved to Santa Barbara in 1980. For 10 years, she worked in San Francisco at one of the largest accounting firms in the nation – Ernst & Young – as a Senior Accounting Manager and later as New Business Development Director.
Since 2000, Ms. Nicholson has built a private practice in Santa Barbara and founded Nicholson & Schwartz in 2004. She specializes in tax consulting and preparation for individuals, non-profits and corporations, with an emphasis on small business financial management.
Carola is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, and believes strongly in giving back to her community. She currently serves on the boards for the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation, the Children’s Project and Earl Warren Showgrounds. Carola is also a past member of the Santa Barbara County Advisory Board on Alcohol and Drug Problems, Women’s Economic Ventures (WEV), Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, the Santa Barbara Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Santa Barbara Symphony League.
Ann Schwartz is a Certified Public Accountant who has professionally prepared taxes in Santa Barbara since 1976. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of CPAs.
Besides having worked for two of Santa Barbara’s largest accounting firms, Ms. Schwartz also owned and operated a successful Santa Barbara restaurant for more than a decade. She was in charge of all aspects of running the business, from start-up through payroll, all government reporting, to the eventual sale, which gives Ms. Schwartz hands on experience with the all-around operating needs of small businesses.
After opening her own private tax practice in 2000, Ann joined Carola in founding Nicholson & Schwartz in 2004. She specializes in individual, trust, estate & corporate tax planning and preparation. Ann also values giving back to the community and currently serves on the board of Animal Rescue Team, a Buellton non-profit.
Andrea Villanueva joined the firm in 2010. Since then, she has completed the UCSB Professional Accounting Certificate program and has attained her Enrolled Agent License through the IRS. Besides helping clients during tax season, Andrea is also knowledgeable in payroll and bookkeeping.
Her past customer relations experience gives her the understanding of how important quality service is to a successful business and enjoys putting those skills to use with the firm’s clients.
Andrea is a Goleta native and attended California State University, Chico graduating in 2007. She enjoys spending her free time hiking the Santa Barbara trails with her two rescue dogs.
Teriza Chaney has been with Nicholson & Schwartz since January of 2005 and became a licensed Enrolled Agent in December 2008. Originally from Cayucos, CA, she moved to Santa Barbara in 2000, where she attended UCSB. In 2004 she graduated with a major in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy. Since graduation, Teriza has completed more than 100 business and accounting units through UCSB and UCLA and hopes to complete the CPA exam by Summer 2015.
Ken Hennessee was born in Delano, CA and moved to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB in 1980. He graduated in 1984 with a degree in Economics Mathematics. Ken has 30 years of experience in individual and small business taxation. He received his CPA license in 2006 when he began working with Nicholson & Schwartz; he currently manages the North County office. He resides in Buellton with his wife and daughter and when he’s not in the office, you can find him on the golf course.
Barbara Karry has been at the office since 2005. She enjoys managing the office specially during the busy tax season, catching up with the firm’s many long time clients and practicing excellent customer service.
She moved from Michigan in 1980 and has loved living in Santa Barbara. One of her many passions is volunteering at Visiting Nurse Hospice of Santa Barbara as well as hiking, swimming and traveling with her family.
Molly has the most important role at Nicholson & Schwartz; she is the official office greeter. She is a 7 year old Australian Shepard ready for you to give her lots of love and belly rubs while you happily wait to discuss taxes and business related topics.
